Description
This is the eye-catching pom pom topiary form of the Daub’s Frosted Juniper, a very colorful, hardy and easy-to-grow compact evergreen conifer to around 2 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide. New growth emerges golden-yellow through the season and matures to blue-green. A low-maintenance topiary that might require just a couple trimmings per year to maintain the pom pom form, this plant adds a lot of character as a specimen to home foundation plantings, rock gardens, around patio gardens and other outdoor living spaces and anywhere you want to draw attention in the sunny landscape.
Landscape & Garden Uses
The Daub’s Frosted Juniper Pom Pom is ideal for use as a specimen in small to mid size spaces or in container of 18 inchers or more in diameter. A fine accent in home foundation plantings where it can be useful to accentuate or frame an entryway or under low windows 2 feet or more above the ground. A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens, topiary gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing:Â 6 feet apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
The Daub’s Frosted Juniper is easy to grow in a damp to moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. Once established water needs are quite low when growing in the ground. As with so many other conifers, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic; leading to root rot or other harmful plant diseases. So make sure to plant this one in well-drained soil, whether in the ground or in pots. Choose a container with a drainage hole(s) and use a quality potting soil or potting mix, or a 50/50 mix thereof. In pots, soil moisture will need to be monitored more closely, especially during summer. When the top two inches of soil is dry, provide water.
Average Trimming Per Year:Â Â Two trimmings a year after new growth has fully emerged in spring and maybe again in summer should be ample.Â
